7 top ingredients for hydrating the skin

7 top ingredients for hydrating the skin. We reveal to you the most active moisturizers that give radiance, elasticity, and firmness to the skin.

1. Hyaluronic Acid

It eliminates wrinkles, removes fatigue from the look, fills the lips, thinning over time. We’re talking about the “superhero” of hydration. Its superpower is that it holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water. It is a hydrophilic polysaccharide that is found naturally in our body (skin, joints, eyes, etc.) and is one of the most important factors that prevent moisture from evaporating from the skin, promoting its elasticity and fighting its signs. We find it in cosmetics, injectable treatments, and oral nutritional supplements.

* When choosing hyaluronic acid cosmetics, we check its molecular weight. The lower, the deeper it penetrates the skin.

2. Panthenol

Vitamin B5 derivative with excellent cosmetic properties. Deeply hydrates accelerate the growth of new cells and make the skin soft and smooth. Its great advantage is that it penetrates the deeper layers of the skin and is highly absorbed by the cells. Its beneficial action does well on hair, as it makes them elastic, soft and moisturized, thus protecting them from breakage and shearing.

3. Glycerin

It exists both in natural form (from animal or plant sources) but also in synthetic form (from petroleum derivatives). It has powerful emollient and moisturizing properties, making it ideal for very dry skin or for signs of dehydration. Its main feature is that it creates microfilm in the upper layer of the skin, which retains moisture while at the same time neutralizing the external factors that threaten it.

4. Oils

It is undoubtedly a big trend in grooming. Some are multipurpose, ie applied to face, body and hair, others are specialized, e.g. are specially designed to provide anti-aging and tightening. Some combine as cocktails, others have a holistic identity. However, everything is dry, easily absorbed, and thanks to their structure they can penetrate to the deepest layers of the skin. Top beneficial oils are olive oil, argan and coconut oil, which contain many antioxidants, fatty acids, and vitamins.

5. Ceramides

The roof tiles protect the house from water. The skin tiles do exactly the opposite: they bind water to the cells. These are oily, lipophilic molecules that are found on the skin and mainly on its surface, the keratin layer. According to studies, dry, damaged or irritated skin is often associated with a lack of tiles.

To increase their amount in our skin, we choose cosmetics containing either tiles or niacinamide (otherwise vitamin PP) at a rate of 2%, which increases the tiles, hence the consistency of the keratin layer and therefore the epidermis.

6. Urea

It is produced during protein metabolism and participates in the mechanism of excretion of excess nitrogen by the body. We also find it in the upper layers of the skin, where it is produced by the breakdown of its proteins. It plays an important role in natural hydration, maintaining moisture in the skin. When the urea is applied through a cream, it attracts and binds water. In short, urea is a natural hydrophilic component of the skin important for maintaining skin elasticity but also for enhancing its protective function.

It is especially effective on face and body creams and especially on hands and feet, which are easily dehydrated and discomforted. The higher the concentration (2%, 5%, and 10%), the deeper and richer hydration it offers.

7. Ω-3 and ω-6 Fatty Acids (Omega 3 & Omega 6 Fatty Acids)

They fill in the gaps in the cell membrane and seal it so that the cells do not lose water. Thus, the skin is kept firm and elastic. The omega-3s are abundant in fish and seafood (mainly in salmon, anchovy, sardines, herring, mackerel, and trout, but also in olive oil). O-6s are found in vegetable oils, such as sunflower oil, peanuts, and animal foods such as eggs, poultry, and meat.
