Makeup Fall / Winter 2020 – 2021: The top trends of the season. Every season we observe changes in fashion trends, but also in makeup. So this year too, the famous makeup artists presented their proposals for the season on the catwalks of the leading fashion houses.
So if you are wondering what will be the trends in makeup for the period Fall / Winter 2020 – 2021, the following list will give answers to what you are looking for.
Some trends remain at the top during this period as well. Of course, there are also new additions that will give an air of renewal to our makeup. See in more detail the colors in shadows and lips, as well as all the makeup techniques that will be a must in Autumn and Winter.
The makeup base suggested by famous makeup artists for the new season
A beautiful make-up always starts with the ideal base. This is the dyeing of the skin on which we will create the makeup of our eyes and all the natural or colored look that we have chosen to do.
So what did the experts suggest for this year?
Makeup without foundation
Avoiding foundation use again remains at the top of the options, thus giving a more natural result. In this way, all the features of a face are highlighted, even the cute freckles that may be present.
We saw this base on the catwalks of Salvatore Ferragamo, Proenza Schouler, Christopher Kane, Rochas, and Matty Bovan, among others.
In combination with foundation or on a naked face, the famous makeup artists did not hesitate to maintain the radiant skin again in the trends of the season. This is a trick that makes the look more natural, even when makeup has been used to cover some minor imperfections.
The make-up artists of the fashion houses Marine Serre, Balmain, The Row, Loewe, Victoria Beckham, and Gucci were just some of the supporters of this trend.
Soft and flawless makeup base with light and shadow
Flawless skin with minimal makeup products at the base dominated the catwalks for the Fall / Winter 2020 – 2021 season. Of course, some did not hesitate to use foundation, contour, and highlight.
More specifically, make-up artist Tom Pecheux by Brandon Maxwell focused on creating a glamorous look without a cakey result. He achieved this by using a warm shade of bronzer and strobe cream to add shine.
Alberta Ferretti also added beautiful shading with bronzer and contouring under the cheekbones and along with the temples.
In contrast, on the catwalks of Marc Jacobs, Richard Malone and Versace the make-up was slightly heavier.
The favorite natural makeup
Also known as no-makeup makeup will continue to be a top makeup trend in the Fall / Winter 2020 – 2021 season. Timeless and highly impressive, its natural effect emphasizes the features of a face without changing them.
Burberry suggested applying a thin layer of foundation, a little mascara, and a nude lipstick. So simply, you achieve the perfectly natural result that will make you shine.
In contrast, Chanel models had a makeup without foundation, using a little mascara and a light pink touch on the cheekbones.
On the other hand, the house of Alexander McQueen created this fresh result with a little blush and minimal foundation or eye makeup.
Light pink blush on the cheekbones
A light touch of neutral pink blush or shade can instantly make makeup fresh and youthful. In fact, such a thing is necessary for the cold months of the year.
The Michael Kors models had a generous dose of pink blush, keeping the rest of the makeup at a natural level.
On the other hand, Mission proposed a pink bronze shade that combined perfectly with the same lipstick and no mascara.
These are just some of the examples we have seen from top makeup artists.
The top trends in eye makeup for the period Fall / Winter 2020 – 2021
After creating the base series usually has eye makeup. What shades of colors will be worn more this season and what makeup techniques will have their place of honor?
See in more detail what the top makeup artists suggest and adopt the new trends by making beautiful and modern makeup for your daily or evening appearances.
Thoroughly sloppy smokey eyes
Dark and meticulously smudged with a goth or punk air, the makeup of the season will be inspired by the ’90s.
Max Mara proposed the classic version of black smokey eyes with a more messy look. In contrast to the catwalk of Dries van Noten we saw a colored eye paint in a rectangular shape that gave a more intense goth/punk look.
Respective make-up was presented by Marc Jacobs, Christian Dior, Olivier Theyskens and Emilio Pucci.
Golden glow in the eyes
The metallic colors, dominated by gold, which is a top choice this season in both clothes and accessories, will be worn much like eye shadows.
On the Tory Burch catwalk, gold was used on the upper eyelid and the inner corner of the eye, while its aspect was highlighted with a neutral brown color.
We saw a similar, but more smokey make-up by Tom Ford, who combined the golden color of the eyelid with metallic brown in the crease of the eye and a bright black pencil around the eye.
Brown smokey eyes
Smokey eyes in brown shades are less wild and heavy than black. Nevertheless, it achieves the same intense result and can be worn in almost all circumstances. Always depending on the shade that will be selected.
Givenchy applied many different tones of coffee to its models, giving a different intensity to the look each time.
On the other hand, Chanel used a brown taupe color that added depth to the makeup, creating a contrast with the natural and soft paint that most of the house models had.
Blue eye shadow in classic blue
The blue in the eyes will be worn this season as well. More specifically, we will see a more intense shade like classic blue, which is one of the top colors of the season in fashion. Combined with a winged eye or plain, this intense shade color will give our eyes the intensity they need.
Typical examples we saw in Tadashi Shoji, Prabal Gurung and Miu Miu.
Bright neon colors in the eyes
Although the bright colors in our eyes are more reminiscent of Summer, the experts wanted to give them the opportunity to wear even the coldest months of the year.
In most cases, the shadows were used in a slightly more artistic way, something that is not particularly possible in real life. Influenced by the meticulously sloppy form of smokey eyes, Matty Bovan, Ashish, Charlotte Knowles, Self-Portrait, Tadashi Shoji, Chromat, and Ulla Johnson, presented this new makeup trend for the Fall / Winter 2020 – 2021 season.
Eye shadows in precious stone colors
In shades of emerald, amethyst, and other precious stones, these shades will be worn this year, giving our eye makeup a metallic sheen and a more mature look compared to the bright colors.
These are colors that are just as interesting as the earth tones and will be the perfect alternative for Autumn and Winter.
They were used by Prada to emphasize the crease of the eye, forming a rectangular shape. But also from the famous makeup artist Tom Pecheux at Altuzarra who created a double color eye makeup.
Winged eyeliner along the entire length of the eyelid or only in the outer corner of the eye
The most popular choice of eyeliner line with the classic winged will remain on top this season, giving our makeup a retro and impressive image. Typical examples we saw in Dolce & Gabbana, Rag & Bone, and Marc Jacobs.
But if you are looking for something more special and modern, then experts recommend applying it only to the outer corner of the eye, making a small line on both the upper and lower eyelid. This is an alternative idea that emphasizes the outer corner of the eye. We saw something like this on the catwalks of Richard Quinn, Christian Dior, Miu Miu, and Moschino.
Eyeliner line on the crease of the eye or artistic creations with eyeliner
But there are always the most extreme proposals that are often difficult to follow. This is exactly what the above photos prove.
The famous makeup artists put their imagination and talent to create special works of art with canvas the eyes of the models and a basic brush that of the eyeliner.
With a more hippie mood and the influence of the ’60s, Valentino, Stella McCartney, and Celine make-up artists painted a floating eyeliner line on the crease of the eyes.
In contrast to the houses of Yohji Yamamoto, Gucci, Marco de Vincenzo, Toga, and Vera Wang we saw more theatrical and elaborate creations.
Eyes with glitter, rhinestones, and gold leaves
In all the fashion trends, as they are presented on the catwalk, there is a dose of exaggeration. Even in makeup, famous makeup artists suggest, in addition to the classic and easily adaptable to everyday trends, the most extreme versions of the season.
So this year, in addition to the glitter we saw at Christopher Kane, Gabriela Hearst, Vivetta, and Marni, experts are again proposing three-dimensional decorations, such as rhinestones, as well as a gold leaf for eye painting.
More specifically, we saw the 3D accessories on the catwalks of Giambattista Valli, Halpern, Dion Lee, Rixo, and Paula Knorr, while the gold leaves (in various shades) in the houses of Adeam, Preen, Erdem, and Simone Rocha.
Although it usually exudes a more summery air, the color on the lashes will be a top trend in makeup for the Fall / Winter 2020 – 2021 season.
The popular make-up artists of the famous fashion houses Off-White and Ulla Johnson, among others, considered that colored mascaras can be well worn even in these seasons, giving a happier note of color to our makeup.
Spiky lashes, as they are called, are ideal to make the look more intense and open the eye. They give a doll-like effect and are inspired by the ’60s.
So whether it is fake and long, or intensely painted with thick mascara lashes, this effect will be a must for the season. This was suggested by Rodarte, Molly Goddard, Celine, and Lanvin, among others.
Thick and sloppy eyebrows
Thick eyebrows with an upward hairstyle will be a top trend in makeup this Autumn and Winter.
This is a proposal by make-up artist Lucia Pieroni at the Rochas fashion house, which we also saw on the Victoria Beckham catwalk.
Strangely painted or erased with makeup eyebrows
And because as we have already mentioned on the catwalks there are exaggerations, the famous makeup artists suggested for this year two more special trends for the eyebrows. One is that of the faded ones, which continues the top course it had in the previous season and the other refers to the intensely painted upper line of the eyebrows.
These are two proposals that will be difficult to adopt. This does not mean, however, that they did not make their presence felt on the runways of Prabal Gurung, Tia Adeola, Anrealage, Giambattista Valli, Erdem, Gucci and Haider Ackermann.
The trends in lip makeup for this Fall / Winter
And of course to complete a modern and successful makeup you need lip color. So what are the top lipstick shades for this period?
See the list in detail and choose the ideal one for you!
Lipstick that fades at the edges
A special application of lipstick for this period is the above. The lips are painted in such a way that they look as if they have been painted on the contour.
Therefore, this technique will be very useful. There is no need to worry about whether the color of our lipstick has started to fade, even if we initially chose to wear it normally creating the perfect contour.
This trend was adopted by makeup artist Peter Phillips from Fendi, as well as makeup artists by Chloé and 16Arlington.
Seductive red lips
Classic, timeless and extremely seductive, the red color on the lips is never missing from the makeup trends. So it could not be worn at this time. The glamorous or retro image that creates this intense lipstick is ideal for any occasion.
This was also suggested by Jason Wu, MSGM, Marc Jacobs, Jil Sander, Brock Collection, Dolce & Gabbana and Dries van Noten, among others.
Dark and gothic lipstick colors for the season
And because the weather is getting colder and dark colors are becoming more popular, the lips could not be unaffected.
Dark lipstick in burgundy, the green, purple, black, etc color will be a must for the season. Exhaling a more vampy air many times, these shades complete every make-up in an elegant and beautiful way.
Something similar was seen on the catwalks of Rodarte, LaQuan Smith, Chocheng, Anna Sui, and Emilio Pucci.
Although matte lipsticks have become very popular in recent years, experts suggest the return of glossy for this year. The glow in nude, but also dark lips complete the makeup of the season, giving a seductive dimension.
It makes the lips look fuller and attracts attention. This is exactly what the makeup artists of Off-White, Lanvin, Christopher Kane, Badgley Mischka, Chanel, and Simone Rocha achieved.
